In anticipation of the passage of President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” Central Arkansas-based nonprofit Potluck Food Rescue is sounding the alarm about the spending package’s potential impact on food security in Arkansas.
The bill proposes deep cuts to SNAP, the food aid program low-income families depend on to help buy groceries. An estimated 240,000 Arkansans benefit from SNAP, which was previously known as food stamps.
Potluck, a food rescue organization that has been diverting food away from the landfill and into people’s homes for more than 30 years, says the bill could increase hunger and put a strain on local food access organizations.
