WRIGHTSVILLE, Ark. – Niki Cregett said when the Dollar General in Wrightsville announced its closure in May, she was left with no other option to buy groceries in her hometown.
“But now, if we need anything, we have to go all the way to town to get something. Just for a bag of ice or drinks or anything,” Cregett said.
Potluck Food Rescue is a nonprofit organization driven by the mission to end food insecurity in Arkansas. It partners with restaurants, grocery stores, and businesses to help reach this goal.
“What we do is, we pick up their excess that they were going to throw away — whether it’s just a little too bruised to be sold, or it’s close to the expiration date and they’ve got new inventory coming in,” Marianne Nolley with Potluck Food Rescue said.
On Saturday, Potluck Food Rescue set up tables of food at the Wrightsville Carnival, giving the people living there an opportunity to fill a shopping cart once again.
“Oh, I love it. I have a lot of grandkids, and they will benefit from this,” Cregett said.
The executive director with Potluck Food Rescue said they’re working with other organizations to offer a more permanent solution for the people in Wrightsville.
